This is Krill Social

What is Krill Social

A chatting app where your experience doesn't have to rely on anyone else. No need for a central server, no annoying updates, no paid features. You can own your own chats and all your data.

The user experience is intended to be just like Slack, Discord, Stoat: Servers with invites, server channels, roles. Accessible via phone, PC, anything with a modern browser.

To host a server, you only have to download the server files and double click the "run" file. Then, on-screen instructions and options will be given for setup and installation. When setup is complete, the terminal window will display a dashboard with a link at the bottom which you can share to invite other users to your server.

Design Language

The interface features an intuitive and minimal interface, that users of popular desktop chatting apps will find very familiar. You can join as many servers as you'd like, where each server has seperate channels.

The Philosophy

The aim of Krill Social is to build a chatting platform where no single person, or entity, is in charge of everything. Built around decentralization from the ground up, Krill allows you to host your own chats, while implementing most nice-to-haves you know and love from your current chatting apps.

All messages are encrypted per-channel, and the server stores chat keys in an encrypted database. Even if hackers got access to the database of a server, without the master key the database is unreadable.

Application
Your message is turned into encrypted gibberish before it leaves your device
---
Network
Only chat data that's encrypted moves through the network
---
Server
Messages are stored in a server encrypted, as they arrived. The database files are also encrypted.

Program Architecture

Both the client and server file structure is incredibly simple and compact. No zips to extract or docker containers to compose.
